However, this is not relevant for women’s individual experiences. This is because women do NOT date the ENTIRE pool of men: they filter. Men are scored on a combined Alpha-Beta metric, and offers are accepted if they exceed a certain threshold.
It means that definitionally, among the pool of men that a woman dates, hotter men are more likely to be jerks. That’s how she filters. This is not a “problem,” but a trade-off she and all women tacitly accept.
Note that Alpha and Beta traits can actually be POSITIVELY correlated, and this would STILL hold. The hotter a man gets, the more likely he is to stick around and raise kids and work hard and manage a bank account, etc.
Irrelevant. Unless the correlation is perfect, there will still be some movement. And because women accept the hotness-niceness trade-off, hot guys are ALWAYS going to be jerks in a woman’s dating pool.
Period.
Self-inflicted problem.
Women try to maximize the utility here by implementing minimum requirements on the Beta side, IE, Beta cannot be below 5, no matter HOW hot you are. No different than me saying that a car needs to have all-wheel drive, no matter how cheap or how much horsepower it has.
Of course, this is not readily observable, so women look at certain signals to see if a man has High Enough Beta.The dating websites are full of this: Does he have a good relationship with his Mom? Does he tolerate chick flicks? Can he cry?
Women then assume he has High Enough Beta.
But that’s a minimum requirement, and does not eliminate the trade-off, because the trade-off is how women score men, and therefore will always exist.
